America the Beautiful

I must admit that, since living abroad, my love for the United States has only grown. Perhaps absence makes the heart grow fonder, but I’ve always considered myself something of a patriot. Majoring in history and political science at university before ultimately pursuing a less interesting course of study certainly taught me things about the country and its founding documents that, for me, cemented a profound fondness and respect for America. That has remained and deepened with time, such that now, as I see the country coming together to host the World Cup and preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our founding as a nation, my heart has both swelled with pride and felt a great sadness that my family and I aren’t there to celebrate alongside our fellow Americans.

This isn’t just any typical Fourth of July; it marks 250 years of God’s favor and is a milestone worthy of reflection. It’s a moment to contemplate the beauty of our nation’s founding, revisit its glorious founding documents, and revel in what we’ve built as a people. The bravery and vision of a few gave us a nation truly unlike anything else in the world and bestowed upon each generation of Americans the responsibility to protect and preserve it.

Oh, how I wish we were there to celebrate and commemorate her alongside my fellow Americans. No country is perfect, but I can both ache for her growth while celebrating her beauty. I would strongly encourage you to study our beautiful nation’s founding and history. It will inspire you!

Happy Fourth of July weekend! Happy 250th Birthday America! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
